On Wednesday, 2 November 2016, more than 150 staff, directors and partners from the Audit & Assurance Department traded their comfy, air-conditioned office environment to give the people at Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen helping hands to prepare, cook and distribute meals to the needy as part of the firm's CSR initiatives.
Willing Hearts is a secular, non-denominational and non-affiliated charity which operates a soup kitchen that provides daily meals to the underprivileged and needy individuals in Singapore.
They arrived at 5.30 am and was greeted by an overwhelming mountain of vegetables and other ingredients waiting to be prepared for cooking. They were involved in the preparation of the food, cook, pack and even clean the kitchen and cooking utensils. Many of them were surprised by the scale of the operation and the amount of food that needs to be prepared and cooked. For those who owns a car, they took part in the delivery of the food to various locations in Singapore. It was hard physical work for many but certainly a satisfying one. At the end of the day, not only did they go home with a rewarding and fulfilling experience, they had enjoyed the experience too.
